Let's celebrate Diwali! Enjoy a story about Diwali read by a local author, learn a dance to a festive song, then create a Diwali themed craft to take home. Ages 5+
Join us for a fun and festive Diwali Celebration!
Experience the magic of Diwali with a special reading of The Spirit of Diwali by local author Smita Bhandari. Perfect for children ages 5+, this engaging story will introduce young readers to the joy and meaning behind the Festival of Lights.
We’ll then turn up the fun with a guided dance session to a lively Diwali song, where kids (and grownups!) can join in and learn some traditional Indian dance moves.
But that's not all! After the dance, children can express their creativity by participating in a Diwali-themed craft activity, where they’ll get to make something special to take home.
Don’t forget to come dressed in your most colourful clothes, and if you’re feeling adventurous, try wearing an Indian-inspired outfit to get into the full Diwali spirit!
There will also be a chance to purchase a copy of The Spirit of Diwali and have it signed by the author herself. This is a wonderful opportunity to support a local writer and give your child a keepsake from this vibrant cultural celebration.
We can’t wait to celebrate Diwali with you and your family!
About the author:
"This story has been inspired by childhood memories of how I celebrated Diwali In India with my family. I have taken creative liberties to foster interest in Diwali for my daughter. Living in Australia my daughter has limited exposure to Indian culture and traditions. This story was a way to share the essence of the traditions, culture and family values that I have grown up with. I hope you enjoy reading this book and share it with the little humans in your life. There is a glossary at the end of this book to explain some of the popular Hindi terms. There is also a synopsis of the traditional story of Diwali to understand a bit more about this beautiful Hindu festival." - Smita Bhandari
