After World War II both men and women were thrown into almighty life changes. Sue Trethowan-Jones has written the stories of some of their struggles and joy.
Sue Trethowan-Jones was born in Melbourne but moved to Geelong as a child. She worked as a journalist for 25 years. She was the the Women's Editor of the Geelong newspaper for 20 years, and also the Fashion and Travel Editor. She has written for the Advertiser, News and Echo newspapers in Geelong, and The Age and Herald Sun in Melbourne. For two years she conducted the Sue Trethowan radio show on 3GL in Geelong.
Sue wrote the book Gems of a generation: the beading girls and told the stories of 15 Baby Boomer women and how their lives had changed. She is revisiting the topic today.
The Boronggook Drysdale Library building, opened in April 2023, features communal spaces, quiet study areas, an adult changing places facility, a green roof, an internal courtyard garden, a City of Greater Geelong customer service point and resource-efficient systems. The sustainable building is a welcoming and safe space open to all.
