Join Kim barne thaliyu (Geelong Heritage Centre) and Lara Heritage & Historical Inc. for an introduction into researching your family history.
The session will run for 1 hour and include a presentation about how to begin your research and the history of some fascinating Lara families.
This session will appeal to those unsure how to start researching their family’s past and with an interest in Lara’s European settler family history. In the first part of the session you will learn about where you can undertake your research, what records are available and how Kim barne thaliyu (Geelong Heritage Centre) can support your research journey. The second part of the presentation will highlight local examples of the types of fascinating stories you may uncover during your family history research. The stories of European settler families and how they set the foundations of Lara will be the focus.
From Monday 18 April to Monday 2 May, specialist staff from Kim barne thaliyu / Geelong Heritage Centre will be visiting Geelong Regional Libraries’ branches as part of the Australian Heritage Festival.
From Monday 2 May to Friday 13 May 2022, visitors to Lara Library are also invited to explore an exhibition of photographs and objects that celebrate Lara’s rich history.
The Lara Library is conveniently located next to Austin Park, in a central community hub shared with the Maternal Child Health Centre, Lara Kindergarten and Lara Community Centre. The branch features zones for children and young people, study and reading areas, public access PCs, free WiFi and two Apple iMac computers. Regular Baby, Toddler and Preschool Story Time sessions are held here, and events and programs for adults are also run throughout the year.
