Join us at Ocean Grove Library for a truly special Mother's Day event with local historian, Dr Carla Pascoe Leahy, as she discusses her book, "Becoming a mother: An Australian history".
Local historian, Dr Carla Pascoe Leahy, recently published the first overarching history of Australian motherhood. Through interviews with 60 mothers from Ocean Grove, Fitzroy and Malvern, her groundbreaking new book charts the changing experiences of pregnancy, birth, childrearing and more. Join us to hear Carla explain how the experiences of raising children have changed over time – and how the journey of becoming a mother for the first time transforms a woman’s sense of self and her place within her community.
This event is aimed for parents and carers, and children are welcome. All children under 12 must be supervised by a responsible person (adult or carer) in our libraries and during our programs.
Ocean Grove is the largest town on the Bellarine and boasts a long library history – a free library opened in the public hall in 1910 and our current library was opened as part of The Grove Centre in 1993. This busy library has frequent children’s activities enlivening the space and reflecting the diverse demographics of our community.
