Local Word Writers Festival is an annual three-day event of local writers presenting workshops, presentations and panel discussions for writers and readers.

As parents, we all want to feel connected with our children. We want to create nourishing relationships built on love and trust.

Helping our children to learn to be resilient in the face of today’s challenges and mental health struggles is one of our key roles as a parent. Using personal stories not only helps our children learn these skills, but it also helps us to build connected relationships.

Led by Andy McNeilly, this workshop is filled with stories and examples of how to do this at home. You will walk away with simple strategies to help your children learn the skills to become more resilient and face the challenges of today’s world.

As a primary school teacher, Andy McNeilly noticed that schools were doing a great job of teaching the academics, but students were lacking social and emotional learning skills. He started to run some workshops to help parents, and after receiving great feedback, he decided to write a book. Connecting with Your Kids was Andy’s first book, released in 2019. His second book, Connecting with your Teens, was released in 2023.

Up to 20 participants aged 18+. For parents, educators and aspiring writers.

Tickets $20pp OR $10pp for library members (free to join).
