Local Word Writers Festival is an annual event of local writers presenting workshops, presentations and panel discussions for writers and readers.
This workshop will investigate the practice of ekphrastic writing, including exploring examples from renowned poets as well as from the facilitator. Incorporating a visit to the Geelong Gallery next door to see the exhibition “Views of Geelong and Beyond—Treasures from the Collection”, the group will then return to Geelong Library to create an ekphrastic response as poetry to art works of the Geelong area.
Lyn Chatham’s poetry has been published in Australian print and online literary journals, and her articles and reviews have appeared in Meanjin, Plumwood Mountain and the Rochford St Review. She was a runner-up in the Shire of Nillumbik Ekphrastic Poetry Award in 2015, and in 2018 her poetry chapbook, Artisan, was published by Melbourne Poets Union. In 2023 she completed a Master of Arts in Writing and Literature at Deakin University and her painting exhibition, Tree, has just concluded at Field Studies Gallery in Maldon.
Up to 12 participants aged 18+. for those who would like to practice a now popular aspect of poetic expression.
$40* or $20* for Concession Card Holders (all cards accepted).
