Lorraine Smith studied Applied Science, specializing in chemistry, at university and qualified as a mathematics and science teacher. After a career in teaching and raising a family of four children with her husband Neil, her love of books led her to opening a second hand bookshop in Warrnambool in the year 2000. This book is her third foray in writing non-fiction, having written her family history in 2013 and co-written ‘Warrnambool, a Photographic View’ with Neil in 2015.
Leopold Library was opened in 2018 and is situated within the Leopold Community Hub. The branch offers a welcoming and bright space with zones for working, comfortable reading and activities. A dedicated technology makerspace provides opportunities to develop creativity, imagination and problem solving. Public access PCs, free WiFi, a large area for children and young people, coffee machine, meeting room for community hire and comfortable seating are further features of this branch. Regular Baby, Toddler and Preschool Story Time sessions are held here.
