First Nations' Performance
Cultural Diversity Week
Saturday, March 23
2:30pm - 3:30pm
Boronggook Drysdale Library
Boronggook Drysdale Multipurpose RoomHave you ever wondered about the history and cultural significance of First Nations' Performances? Come along and find out about the history of performance of our First Nations' people.
First Nations' Australian Performance could be considered some of the oldest theatre in the world. If you look at the essence of what theatre performance is, it is performance, it is ritual, it is the embodying of someone else and their celebration of that story. Indigenous people have been doing that for tens of thousands of years. Now we call it Theatre, and it is so important to look back on that history of this craft and art form. Come with us to explore a bit about this history and discuss its importance to the future. Feel free to ask the questions you have been wanting to ask.
This program will be facilitated by Kalarni Murray an Anaiwan and Barkindji woman who has immersed herself into the world of First Nations' knowledge and artwork. She is currently studying a Graduate Diploma of Indigenous Research, and using creative forms of the written word and visual art in a new form of academic writing.
