You are invited to a very important conversation about family violence in our own community, presented in partnership with Meli and The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre.
Last year, 4,865 family violence incidents were recorded in Greater Geelong. Over the past 10 years in Australia, an average of one woman a week has been killed in the context of family violence. As at 20 March 2024, 19 women have already tragically lost their lives to family violence.
You are invited to a very important conversation about family violence in our own community.
The Geelong Candlelight Vigil is a call to action to speak up, lift the veil of silence that surrounds domestic and family violence, and reach out for support if experiencing violence.
As part of this Vigil we will ask event attendees to join us to grieve, share messages of hope, and ensure that we never forget the people behind the statistics. Attendees will be encouraged to light a candle and honour the memory of those lost as a result of domestic or family violence.
Presented by Meli and The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre, we welcome members of the community to hear from Simone O’Brien (pictured), a family violence survivor and activist. The forum will also include a panel of expert local speakers sharing how your workforce can learn, navigate, prevent and support staff.
If you need any assistance in order to participate in this event, please contact events@grlc.vic.gov.au at least two weeks prior to the event date.
