Geelong Womens Union Network, in partnership with Geelong Regional Libraries, will explore the issue of justice for refugee women.
Our panel of speakers will discuss the current system for refugees in Australia and how our visa system affects women. They will examine its implications for women, their families and the community and particularly focus on whether it provides any justice for women. They will also present what we need to do to create a just and safe system for women. Our panel will represent those who have knowledge or work in this area as well as women with lived experience of this system. This is an issue that generally in Australia we have little knowledge and so we intend to inform and encourage our community to have a better informed and compassionate understanding of refugees that come into our communities.
The panel includes Linda Cusworth, Executive Committee member, Combined Refugee Group Geelong, and Rathi Barthlote (pictured), Refugee Women Action For Vise Equality.
