Local Word Writers Festival is an annual three-day event of local writers presenting workshops, presentations and panel discussions for writers and readers.
Many people love the idea of writing a picture book but when they sit down to try, they realise what a difficult art form it can be to master. This workshop will break down the unique elements of picture books and take participants through the different styles (fiction, non-fiction, concept, etc). Participants are encouraged to come with an idea to work on for discussion about beginnings, endings, structure, word-choice and tone.
Heather Gallagher works as a writer-in-residence in disadvantaged primary schools. Her first picture book, Happy Pants, was a recommended title in the Australian Family Therapist’s awards. Her latest, Scaredy Cat, is based on her anxious dog, Pip.
Tickets $30pp OR $20pp for library members (free to join) OR $10 for concession holders.
Up to 15 participants. For beginner picture book writers aged 18+
