Whether you're a beginner or have some sewing experience, this workshop offers the perfect opportunity to transform old, unused garments into stylish, one-of-a-kind pieces. Learn essential techniques for altering clothing to fit better, as well as innovative methods to breathe new life into fabrics that might otherwise go to waste.
No sewing experience necessary to join this program, however we suggest attending a Sewing Basics program first if you have never used a sewing machine before. If you haven't received an induction to our sewing and overlocker machines before, we ask that you arrive 10-15mins prior to the start time of the program.
Requirements for induction:
- Must be 18 years or older to be inducted to use the sewing machines
- Must be a member of the Geelong Regional Libraries
- Sewing and overlocking machine are available to be borrowed for use within the library.
What to expect:
- This is a practical educational and social program for adults, facilitated by a library staff member
- There is a a maximum of 5 participants.
- You will learn how to safely operate the library's sewing machine and overlocker.
- Please bring along a project that you'd like to work on and we can help get you started.
- With the support of the facilitator, you will learn to make simple alterations and adjustments to your item of clothing
- It is a relaxed social environment and you are welcome to chat as much or as little as you like.
- No experience is needed, and basic sewing materials are provided.
