Clare Reilly - Wheelchair Meets Wilderness
In Conversation with Abigayle Carmody
Thursday, December 03
6:00pm - 7:00pm
Geelong Library and Heritage Centre (The Dome)
Geelong Library Wurdi Youang (Level 5)Join Clare Reilly on International Day of People with Disability for an inspiring conversation about disability, adventure and the journey behind Wheelchair Meets Wilderness.
When Multiple Sclerosis changed Clare Reilly's life, she made a decision that would redefine her future. Rather than allowing a wheelchair to limit her world, Clare embraced adventure, resilience and a determination to keep exploring the places she loves.
Wheelchair Meets Wilderness chronicles her history-making 1,067-kilometre journey along the Munda Biddi Trail, becoming the first person to complete the entire route in a wheelchair while raising awareness and more than $100,000 for MS research.
Join Clare as she shares her deeply personal story of living with disability while refusing to let it define her. With honesty, humour and hope, she reflects on the challenges, triumphs and unexpected moments that shaped her journey, proving that life's greatest adventures are not measured by distance travelled, but by the courage to keep moving forward.
More than a memoir, Wheelchair Meets Wilderness is a powerful story of resilience, determination and finding freedom in the face of adversity. It is a reminder that even when life takes an unexpected turn, purpose, possibility and adventure remain within reach.
About the author:
Clare Reilly is an award-winning disability advocate, storyteller, and outdoor adventure enthusiast who’s never let multiple sclerosis slow her down. Recognised for her community impact, Clare is the recipient of the Geelong Awards for People with Disability Leadership and Advocacy Award. She uses her platform to champion universal access and inclusion in the Australian outdoors, both through her advocacy and as the voice behind the MSUnderstood podcast.
Alongside her adventures, she recently completed her Bachelor of Psychological Science and works as a virtual assistant, helping NDIS participants stay organised and show up online with confidence.
Clare lives in the coastal town of Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula with her husband, son, and their cat, Matilda. When she isn't pushing the boundaries of adaptive trail riding alongside her dedicated support crew, she can be found seeking out local roadside honey stalls, reading, or spending time in her native cottage garden.
Clare will be in conversation with Abigayle Carmody.
