This Inspiring Australia initiative is supported by the Australian Government as part of National Science Week.

Can fish feel pain? Does it matter if a dingo is different from a dog? Science tackles some unexpected questions. Who better to navigate us through these unprecedented days than Australia’s best science writers? Now in its tenth year, the much-loved Best Australian Science Writing anthology selects the most riveting, poignant and entertaining science stories and essays from Australian writers, poets and scientists. Contributors include Rebecca Giggs, Carl Smith, Jo Chandler and many more.

Join us for a special event as we turn science into stories that we can all understand, with anthology Editor and award-winning science writer, Sara Phillips. Sara is executive editor for the Asia-Pacific region of Nature Research Group’s custom publishing arm. Previously, she was the national environment reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, where she filed news and feature stories for online, radio and television, and editor of ABC Environment online, a now-archived portal for the ABC’s environment content.

Sara will be in-conversation with Dyani Lewis, editor of the forthcoming Best Australian Science Writing 2021 and freelance science journalist based in Melbourne. Dyani is also a scientist with a PhD in plant genetics, and a background working in sexual health research.
