Held across the country from 7-14 July 2024, NAIDOC Week will celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
In commemoration of NAIDOC Week, Geelong Regional Libraries is celebrating First Nations creativity in this region and shining the spotlight on some First Nations artists and creatives who are transforming the local arts scene, and paving the way for future Indigenous creatives.
Featuring:
Aunty Fay Muir - a Senior Boonwurrung, Wemba Wemba, and Wergaia woman, First Nations’ community leader and Koori Court Elder, Aunty Fay has served the Victorian community for over 40 years as a First Nations language specialist and sharer of culture and stories. Her children's picture book series, ‘Our Place’ , written with Sue Lawson, has been published by Magabala Books.
Mick Ryan - a Ngarrindjeri and Gunditjmara musical artist, Mick Ryan's art is installed as a soundscape throughout the Level 1 glass link foyer at Geelong Arts Centre. Mick is also part of duo Loud n Deadly, an acoustic First Nations group from Geelong playing a variety of original songs and covers.
The panel discussion will be led by Sue Lawson, author of Inside Story, a writing book for children, Country, published with Wild Dog Books and written with Aunty Fay Muir, and Always Was, Always Will Be published by Magabala and also co written with Aunty Fay Muir.

There will be an opportunity for audience Q&A at the end of the discussion.
