Come along and discover the story of Geelong's earliest major reservoir, Upper Stony Creek Reservoir #1, opened in 1873.
On this walking tour led by Barwon Water, you’ll have a chance to check out Geelong’s earliest major reservoir, Upper Stony Creek Reservoir #1 (opened in 1873) including the imposing water tower, the original caretakers cottage, and walk along the embankment, which at the time of construction was one of the highest in the world.
A bus will take us to the reservoir, a pleasant 45 minute drive from Geelong. All up we’ll be walking around 1 kilometre over unmade paths with some inclines, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. We’ll be leaving Geelong Library & Heritage Centre at 9.30am and will return by around 12.30pm. The walking tour itself takes around 1 hour, and there will also be time for a quick BYO cuppa and snack. Public toilets are available at the reservoir and the library.
