Sewing basics

Always wanted to learn how to sew on a sewing machine? Then come and take a beginner's class at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre

Always wanted to learn how to sew? In this session we will teach you to use the library's sewing machine (and overlocker). We will inspire you to take on some easy, clever sewing projects to impress your family and friends.

Materials provided. No experience necessary, but if you haven't received an induction to our sewing machines before, we ask that you arrive 10-15mins prior to the start time of the program.

Requirements for induction:

• Must be 18 years or older to be inducted to use the sewing machines
• Must be a member of the Geelong Regional Libraries
• Sewing and overlocking machine are available to be borrowed for use within the library. 

What to expect

• This is a practical educational and social program for adults, facilitated by a library staff member
• There is a a maximum of 5 participants. 
• You will learn how to safely operate the library's sewing machine.
• You will learn basic machine sewing techniques, including cutting, pinning and stitching.
• With the support of the facilitator, you will make a beginner-friendly sewing project to take home.
• It is a relaxed social environment and you are welcome to chat as much or as little as you like.
• No experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

• Bookings are recommended to save your place in the program.
• Please cancel your booking if you are no longer able to attend so we can contact our waitlist. Bookings close one day prior to the session.
